We have over 20 years of design experience creating every aspect of our yurts to ensure a quality structure from top to bottom. From Sterling-grade wood, to the best quality canvas, fabric, and hardware, we believe that a portable, versatile yurt can also be a strong, durable, and beautiful shelter for years to come.
Strength and Stability
The strength of our yurt is in its flexibility. It is excellent at distributing weight evenly around the structure and the latticework naturally disperses any stress it receives down to the ground. Even on uneven or sloped terrain, our yurts are just as comfortable as on flat ground. The structure of a yurt is totally freestanding and moveable, or can be anchored in place for use as a longer-term fixture, such as on a deck or permanent flooring.
Wind Resistance
Yurts are extremely efficient at dealing with high winds. Traditional yurts developed in areas of flat land where steady, high winds were common. The round shape means that the wind will go around and above it rather than blowing it over. While no structure is invulnerable to the weather - even with no additional ropes or supports the inherent advantages of a yurt's design make them among most wind resistant tents.
Built-in Hanging Supports
Our yurt’s natural strength allows it support all types of items, from shelves, lighting, partitions, tools, decorations and much more - whether hanging from the wall or roof. Besides the structure itself, the wall bolts serve as convenient hanging points for any number of items. Hanging items on a rafter is as easy as hooking or tying it over the top. The space this frees up on the floor cannot be understated, and is one of the best features of a yurt.
Footprint
Pole and rope supported tents can have a footprint of anywhere between 2 and 5 feet beyond their usable interior space due to support poles, ropes, and stakes. However, a yurt needs no external poles, guy lines, stakes, or ropes to stay up. This makes it one of the most space-efficient tents around, because every inch of footprint is usable interior space. Multiple yurts can set up right up next to each other or other structures, with no problems!
Ventilation Control
The fabric layers on our yurts are completely independent of the structure, so you can open and close it up as you like. In warm weather open the roof flap and lift the wall canvas - warm air will rise through the roof ring, drawing in cooler air from the ground. In colder weather, simply keep the walls down and the door and roof flap shut, and even a few candles will raise the ambient temperature. Adding extra layers (sold individually in several materials) will trap in even more heat.
Doorway and Doors
The canvas wall for our standard yurt overlaps the door frame to form a basic fabric door, however our door frame is ready to accommodate a variety of hinged doors in most any design you choose. Not only does this contribute to the look of your yurt and offer you a great opportunity to customize, but with the right door it allows you to lock your tent! We are happy to customize dimensions of your door frame to perfectly accommodate a door - ask us!
Versatility
The durability and space efficiency of a yurt means it can serve all kind of functions! In the right configuration, a yurt can serve as an outdoor dining area, guest accommodations, workshop space, gazebo, greenhouse, outdoor classroom and much more. It’s easy to think of a yurt as more than a camping space and many of our customers have used their creativity to create incredible, inviting spaces!
